We’re here to help and give you a day to remember
Our SUP Instructors have a mix of knowledge from different areas of paddleboarding, we hold either British Stand Up Paddleboard Assocation, Water Skills Academy or British Canoeing SUP qualifications and share the best teaching practices and latest safety guidance to ensure our sessions and safe, fun and give you the best chance to learn.
Other qualifications include Fire Safety, Sea Survival, BSUPA Level 2 Tour/Race, Instructor Examiner SUP Yoga, Boatmasters and Yachtmasters as well as Wildlife Safe Operators
CRISPIN JONES
Mr Waterborn
Favourite discipline: Ultra endurance racing.
Best achievements: 2nd fastest coast-to-coast SUP, 4 times 11 Cities veteran with a 7th place finish, men’s 14th elite champion 2013 St. Simons Island, Georgia. Leading the Waterborn Team that won the GB National SUP Club Championships 2015/2018/2019
Goals/plans for 2023: Re establish the business in our new location and make SUP The Creek 2023 more inclusive.
Favourite SUP spot: Gwithian (surf) river Dart (distance training).
How did you start SUP: .Started sup back in 2008 on a 12’2 x 26″1/3 at Northsands Salcombe, I fell in a lot but was quickly hooked, and the rest as they say is history.
Best SUP memory: 2nd year of 11 cities racing beside the Spanish, pulling the biggest sup train i’ve ever seen, 6mph for over an hour, epic!
Best kept secret: I rather enjoy Marmite and marmalade sarnies. Shuuuush don’t tell anyone.

Best achievements: 3rd in distance race at Club Championships. Being part of the Waterborn Team that won the GB National SUP Club Championships 2018.
Goals/plans for 2023: To do more down winding!!
Favourite SUP spot: Surfing the Salcombe Bar and paddling between Kingsbridge and Salcombe.
How did you start SUP: I transitioned from longboard surfing, wanting something to get more waves, access new surf spots and mess around on flat days. I tried a friends Laird Hamilton at Northsands and kept falling off. I picked up a second hand Starboard 12’6″ cruiser and off I went.
Best SUP memory: Family paddles with everyone on/in the water.
Other interests: Cycling.
Best kept secret: I was a young ornithologist (useful when paddling locally and you want to bore your fellow paddlers with bird knowledge).
KATY ROUND SMITH

Favourite discipline: Sup Yoga and SUP Sploring!
Best achievements: Podium in age group at Cardiff International Water 2018. Battle of the Thames division winner. Being part of the Waterborn Team that won the GB National SUP Club Championships 2018.
Favourite SUP spot: Paddling on the Dart and around the South Devon Coast.
Goals/plans for 2023: Introduce more people to the sport and develope the Junior Club further
How did you start SUP: After seeing a friend SUP in Totnes and having a go on their board I found myself making a deal to buy it from him after a vino or two, a SUP lesson followed and adventures began.
Best SUP memory: So many, however, probably one of my first adventures with friends, involving a long, beautiful, sunny paddle with camping gear and a night of camping on the beach and the return the next day on the coldest, windiest, greyest and wettest days. Made me feel alive. Great adventure.
Other interests: Sailing, Wild swimming, being on or in the water! Coastal walks, yoga, travel and exploring new places.
Best kept secret: I lived in Spain for a while!

Favourite discipline: Racing.
Best achievements: Completing the 11 Cities race in Northern Holland suffering from concussion! Didn’t finish as high as I would have liked but never gave up and completed it.
Favourite SUP spot: Salcombe bar when surf is going off.
Goals/plans for 2023: To balance water time and being a dad!
How did you start SUP: National paddlers Paul Simmons and Marie Buchanan persuaded me that it would be a good way to stay fit instead of going to the gym!!
Best SUP memory: Paddling with dolphins in Salcombe
Other interests: Insanity: Asylum, trail running and working to afford the paddling.
Best kept secret: My left foot is half a size bigger than my right!

Best achievements: Hosting a SUP Yoga class for 19 Stags and not falling in, in front of them!
Favourite SUP spot: Quiet secluded creeks between Salcombe & Kingsbridge, especially Blanksmills and Collapit.
Goals/plans for 2023: Enjoy as much early morning SUP Yoga as possible! The water is at is quietest and you can watch the world wake up around you.
How did you start SUP: I was very late joining the party, but as soon as I did in 2015, I became hooked straight away!
Best SUP memory: Paddling up the Salcombe Estuary being followed by a seal!
Other interests: Loads! As well as yoga, meditation and SUP, I love wholesome food, green juices, grass roots travel and dogs! My favourite book is The Art of Hearing Heartbeats and favourite movie is 50 First Dates.
Best kept secret: I have always wanted to be a Charlie’s Angel. Talented, tough and courageous!!
